I was once denied service for this very reason. The tow truck came, the driver saw the expired plate and refused to tow. Later, I got a call from AAA stating they could not tow vehicles with expired registration.

We are plus membership since this has been purchased since 1984. The grandkids have been driving for 10 years and have cards plus their spouses when they married. My daughter and husband just took a motorcycle trip from WV to Tennessee with 2 other bikes. Coming home one couple had a flat so all three bikes were on the side of the highway. My daughter who has health problems and is a AAA card holder called AAA and was told that her membership doesn’t cover motorcycle problem. I told her try our number. An emergency situation like this was not covered. They were on the side of the highway for 4 hours. They had to stay in a hotel to try and get the tire fixed Monday morning somewhere. Wonder if they got a hotel discount by AAA knowing they were traveling by motorcycle. Our daughter was ill. after standing on the side of the highway so many hours. I was told RV membership covers motorcycle. What! None of us own an RV! Emergency road side assistance for a card holder should be Paramount IMO! As a cardholder for so many years I had no idea that an emergency situation like this would not be covered. I highly recommend my mother and father not spend all that money to cover all their family with substandard emergency assistance! Should not matter what mode of transportation you use for a weekend trip!! Wonder where it says that it doesn’t cover motorcycle …and has it been that way since 1984!? Why would a motorcycle coverage be included with RV when you don’t own an RV! Seems some articles list coverage for Emergency road side service even if you are riding a motorcycle on your trip. You are to feel confident you have peace of mind if an emergency arises! There have been other problems with AAA coverage. Though all of us live in WV and my parents purchase this gift for us all through their local office, some of us get placed in other offices with seemingly different rules! Call the number on our card and you get the run around because hey your area where you live is covered by office out of Pennsylvania or hey now it’s this office..oh now it’s this office! AAA is a faint shadow of what it used to be! Plus membership means nothing when it comes to emergency roadside services! Not to mention if you are named after your father the confusion it causes for AAA! Purchases for emergency road side assistance should just be through their personal insurance companies so this kind of situation never happens again! Can only hope my daughter can recover from her illness and ride the rest of the way home today …AND without any other emergencies that require assistance! Burn your AAA card honey! They don’t care if you have been a card carrying member for years! For less than $5 a month you can get emergency service from your true blue insurance company! Don’t waste your money on AAA! Who knows until an emergency if you will get assistance or not! Grandma only wanted to assure something like this wouldn’t happen!

Reading some other comments below it looks like if he would have called in, they could of helped her with locked in keys. I believe they could of told the granddaughter to ask him to call in and it would of been fine as below responds to one of the comments where husband locked the keys in the car and her friend had to give a verbal agreement. Have I misunderstood something?

I recently had an experience with a AAA towing company that was confusing. I broke down on the interstate in115°. The driver loaded my vehicle on a flatbed then stopped on the way to my home to hook up another customer‘s car and take me with them to their drop off. Is it common for a driver with customers to stop and hook up another vehicle? It doesn’t seem safe for driver or passengers.

Hi Pauline, Did you mean to say that you need to renew your car’s registration tags? If so, yes – AAA will still tow your car even if you need to pay for new registration tags.

I have a car that I need towed, but the license plate is out of date. I need to get the car back up and running but cannot do that until it gets fixed. Will AAA tow a car that has an outdated license plate?

I am not good with calling out on phones but good with texting instead. Does AAA have a way where I could text instead of calling for tow truck?

Hi Nicholas,
Yes! You would absolutely be able to use it for a tow. Call AAA for your membership ID number and have your driver’s license on you when the tow truck arrives.

Hi Colby, yes, AAA can help you get into your car no matter what you are driving. Give them a call. 😉
